It comes with a buffer weight and spring designed to be used with this AR-15 bolt carrier group to further improve functionality. The BCG itself comes with a ton of improvements including a lengthened cam pin slot and a neutrally balanced weight to delay unlocking of the bolt and allow for more gas to escape the barrel. This lowers chamber pressure to decrease wear on parts and reduces gas from expelling out the ejection port. Additionally, the balanced counterweight helps to keep the carrier at the rear of the gun longer for more reliable feeding of ammunition and nearly eliminates bolt bounce during lockup. The SureFire OBC reduces cyclic rate and felt recoil and the proprietary coating reduces friction for a smooth operating rifle.

The SureFire AR-15 Optimized Bolt Carrier also features a shortened gas key and a shorter buffer to increase stroke by 60% to allow for more time for the magazine to feed rounds into the chamber. The combination of the buffer weight carrier weight, and spring rate increase inertia when the bolt picks up a round out of the magazine.
