For upper receivers without a forward assist, being able to manually push the bolt into battery can be a tricky affair. To help make that easier, the SBCG features serrations on the front surface of the concave section of the bolt carrier ahead of the gas vents to improve traction when pressing the bolt forward with a thumb. For long term durability and reliability, the MIL-SPEC gas key has been properly torqued and staked using Ned Christiansen’s Optimized Carrier Key Screws. The OCKS feature deeper, much sharper knurling than traditional hardware, allowing carrier key metal to flow in resulting in incredible security while still allowing the key to be removed if damaged or obstructed. The carrier itself has been cut to match MIL-SPEC M16 / full auto bolt carriers.
The bolt is cut from Carpenter 158 tool steel and shot peened to relieve stress and increase durability. Each bolt is high pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected against defects, and finished (along with the carrier, gas key, and cam pin) with a tough NP3 treatment to reduce friction and carbon build up for easy cleaning and lower requirements for lubrication. For extra reliability, FCD has even thrown in a heavy-duty extractor spring with black insert.
Forward Controls Design firmly believes in the elegance of simplicity. Not content to produce purely aesthetic components, they put function before form to create parts and accessories that actually improve the handling and function of your firearms. When you need parts that just work without complication, you need Forward Controls Design.
NOTE:Â To ensure proper function, every SBCG goes through a 5-round live fire test by Sionics Weapons System. These bolt carrier groups will ship as-is, having been slightly lubed and dirtied from the test firing. This dedication to quality control is part of what sets Forward Controls Design apart from the competition.
